Eltoplate 25mg Tablet is an anticoagulant medication classified as a thrombopoietin (TPO) receptor agonist, with Eltrombopag as its active ingredient. It is used to treat low platelet counts caused by primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) or hepatitis C (HCV) infection. ITP is an autoimmune disorder in which the immune system destroys plateletsβ€”blood cells essential for clotting and protecting blood vessel walls. Low platelet levels can lead to severe bleeding and bruising.

This tablet is also prescribed for adults with severe aplastic anaemia, a condition in which the bone marrow fails to produce enough new blood cells.

Precautions and Contraindications:

Do not use this medication if you have a known allergy or hypersensitivity to Eltrombopag or any of its components. Allergic reactions can range from mild (rash, itching, swelling) to severe (dizziness, difficulty breathing).

This medicine is contraindicated in patients with severe liver impairment or active liver disease, as it may worsen liver function and cause hepatotoxicity, indicated by elevated liver enzymes or bilirubin levels.

Your doctor may recommend eye examinations, including checks for cataracts and retinal bleeding, especially if routine eye tests are not already performed.

Usage Considerations:

Stopping the medication may cause platelet counts to drop within several days. Your doctor will monitor your platelet levels and adjust the dose to prevent counts from becoming too high or increasing the risk of blood clots.

Avoid taking Eltoplate with dairy products or calcium-containing drinks, as calcium can interfere with absorption.
