Xeloda 500 mg Tablet contains the active ingredient capecitabine and belongs to a class of medicines called antimetabolites. It is used in combination with other anticancer drugs to treat metastatic colorectal cancer and breast cancer. Cancer is a condition in which cells grow and divide in an uncontrolled and abnormal way. Xeloda is also prescribed to help prevent the recurrence of colon cancer after surgical removal of the tumor.

Common side effects of Xeloda 500 mg may include loss of appetite, headache, runny nose, fever, hair loss, and dry mouth. During treatment, your doctor may regularly monitor your complete blood counts, prothrombin time, and INR to prevent serious complications. Inform your doctor if you have a history of stomach ulcers, cataracts, lung disease, heart, liver, kidney, or skin problems. Notify your physician before undergoing eye surgery or dental procedures, and report any allergic or unusual reactions after taking this tablet. Xeloda may affect fertility, so discuss any fertility concerns with your doctor before starting therapy. Common substitutes include generic capecitabine or fluorouracil, but any changes should be guided by your physician.

Xeloda 500 mg is not recommended for children or adolescents. Before starting treatment, inform your doctor if you have sugar intolerance, as this medication contains lactose. The drug should not be administered if you have low white blood cell or platelet counts, active chickenpox or shingles, or a deficiency of the enzyme dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPD). Take Xeloda within 30 minutes after completing a meal. This medication may cause harm to a developing fetus, so it should not be used during pregnancy.

Warfarin and Other Anticoagulants (Life threatening) Capecitabine can markedly enhance the blood thinning effect of warfarin, increasing the risk of severe or fatal bleeding. Frequent INR monitoring is essential. Phenytoin (Severe) Xeloda may raise phenytoin levels, leading to toxicity such as drowsiness, confusion, or coordination problems. Blood level monitoring is required. Leucovorin (Severe) Leucovorin can intensify the effect of capecitabine, increasing the risk of diarrhea, mouth sores, and hand foot syndrome. Combined use requires oncology supervision. Allopurinol (Moderate) Allopurinol may reduce the effectiveness of capecitabine by interfering with its activation. Doctors often avoid this combination. Live Vaccines (Moderate) Due to chemotherapy induced immune suppression, live vaccines may cause serious infections. Inactivated vaccines are preferred during treatment. Antacids containing Aluminum or Magnesium (Mild) These may slightly increase capecitabine absorption, potentially raising side effect risk. Clinical monitoring is advised.

How to consume Xeloda 500mg Tablet

Take a Xeloda 500mg Tablet as prescribed by your doctor. Do not crush or chew the tablet. If you miss a dose of this tablet, take it as soon as you can if it is within 12 hours of the missed dose. If it is over 12 hours since your missed dose, skip the missed Xeloda dosage and go back to your usual dosing times to avoid taking double doses.
