Prevall Oral Suspension is an anticancer medication that belongs to the class of purine antagonists and contains the active ingredient mercaptopurine. It is primarily used in the treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), a type of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow. In ALL, immature white blood cells called lymphoblasts are produced in excess, fail to function properly, and accumulate in the blood and bone marrow.

If you are scheduled for a vaccination, consult your doctor or nurse beforehand. While taking this medication, live vaccines (such as polio, measles, mumps, and rubella) should be avoided unless your doctor confirms it is safe. The yellow fever vaccine should not be taken during treatment, as it can cause serious illness.

Your doctor may request regular blood and urine tests to monitor kidney function and measure uric acid levels. Mercaptopurine can increase uric acid, which may damage the kidneys. Dosage adjustments may be needed based on these test results. Patients with impaired kidney or liver function may require lower starting doses due to slower drug elimination and increased cumulative effects.

During therapy, your doctor will likely monitor white blood cell counts, platelets, blood sugar, electrolytes, and kidney function to prevent complications. Inform your doctor if you have a history of liver disorders, heart failure, high cholesterol, or hypertension before starting treatment. Mercaptopurine may affect liver function, so weekly liver function tests are usually recommended.

Report any signs of allergic reactions, such as itching or rashes, while taking this medicine. This oral suspension contains lactose as an inactive ingredient. If you are lactose intolerant, you may experience bloating, abdominal pain, or other digestive symptoms, and you should inform your doctor before starting therapy.

Low blood sugar (sweating more than usual, nausea, dizziness, confusion, etc.) has sometimes been seen in children, mainly in children under the age of six or with a low body mass index.
