Introduction to Jakavi 10mg Tablet

Jakavi 10mg Tablet contains ruxolitinib as its active ingredient. It is an anticancer medicine that belongs to the class of kinase inhibitors. This medication is primarily used to treat myelofibrosis, a rare type of bone marrow cancer that leads to reduced blood cell production. It is also prescribed for polycythemia vera, a blood cancer in which the body produces excessive red blood cells, particularly in patients who do not respond to or cannot tolerate treatment with hydroxyurea.

In addition, Jakavi 10mg is indicated for the treatment of acute graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) in adults and children aged 12 years and older who have not responded adequately to steroid therapy. It is also used to manage chronic graft-versus-host disease in patients aged 12 years and above who have had an unsuccessful response to one or two previous systemic treatments.

Jakavi works by blocking specific signals that promote the growth and multiplication of cancer cells, thereby helping to control disease progression.

Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to ruxolitinib or any of its ingredients. Inform your physician before starting treatment if you have or have had tuberculosis, hepatitis B or C, liver disease, or kidney problems. Let your doctor know if you are undergoing dialysis.

The most common side effects include dizziness, reduced blood cell counts, bruising, bleeding, headache, and swelling of the face or body. Contact your healthcare provider if any side effects are severe, persistent, or concerning

Therapeutic Effects of Jakavi 10mg Tablet

Ruxolitinib, a kinase inhibitor, inhibits dysregulated Janus Associated Kinase (JAK) 1 and JAK2 signaling associated with myelofibrosis and polycythemia vera. By blocking certain enzymes, this medicine can reduce the serious risk of blood or vascular complications in myelofibrosis and polycythemia vera. In GVHD, it reduces the signs and symptoms, improving the disease and survival of transplanted cells.

Interaction of Jakavi 10mg Tablet with other drugs

Inform your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take, including prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, nutritional and vitamin supplements, and herbal products. Certain medications like fluconazole and other CYP3A4 inhibitors may interact with Jakavi 10mg Tablet and reduce its effectiveness by causing undesirable side effects.
