Introduction to Filcad P 6mg Injection

Filcad P 6mg injection contains the active substance Pegfilgrastim. It is a granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) approved by the FDA to help reduce the risk of febrile neutropenia (fever or infection associated with low white blood cell counts) and to shorten the duration of neutropenia (low WBC count) caused by chemotherapy that suppresses bone marrow activity. It is also used to improve survival rates in patients exposed to radiation therapy, which can cause severe and potentially life-threatening damage to the bone marrow. Pegfilgrastim works by stimulating blood-forming cells, promoting their multiplication and activation to boost the production of white blood cells.

Pegfilgrastim is a biotechnologically produced protein made using E. coli bacteria. It belongs to the cytokine family and closely resembles the natural granulocyte-colony stimulating factor produced by your body. White blood cells are crucial for fighting infections, but chemotherapy can significantly reduce their numbers, increasing the risk of infections. If your white blood cell levels drop, your body may not have enough cells to fight bacteria, putting you at higher risk of infection.

Before starting treatment with this injection, inform your doctor if you have or have had liver disease, fever or infections, kidney problems, heart issues, or a family history of kidney disease. Do not use this injection if you are allergic to pegfilgrastim, filgrastim, or any other ingredients in the medication. Immediately report symptoms such as pain in the upper left abdomen, shoulder pain, or respiratory problems to your healthcare provider. The most common side effects include bone, arm, and leg pain.
